BOTANICAL PERFUMES COLLECTION
Inspired by the perfumes and potions my children create in the backyard, I connect with my own childlike curiosity by concocting perfume jars of my own to inspire these paintings.
Foraging for ‘ingredients’ is as important to my process as applying paint to canvas. Gathering wildflowers and mushrooms from local canyons. Botanical treasures mailed to me from a collector’s childhood home. Funeral flowers bestowed upon me by grieving family members. Ordinary objects steeped in stories and meaning.
I stir these things into jars with color and water, immersing myself in tiny botanical worlds. This imagery is then transferred to canvas with poured paint, soft glazes, and bold brush marks. Each painting is an attempt to make tangible these intangible human experiences. Home, grief, nostalgia, longing, beauty. Always beauty.
